Jakob Ingebrigtsen Secures First Olympic Gold in 5,000m at Paris 2024
Norwegian star Jakob Ingebrigtsen achieved a career-defining victory by winning the 5,000m gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The double world champion made a compelling comeback after a disappointing fourth-place finish in the 1,500m earlier in the Games.
Ingebrigtsen dominated the final stretch of the 5,000m race, crossing the finish line with a time of 13:13.66. His closest competitor, Kenyaโs Ronald Kwemoi, finished nearly two seconds behind in 13:15.04, while Grant Fisher of the U.S. took bronze with a time of 13:15.13.
The 23-year-old Norwegian adopted a strategic approach in the final, maintaining a steady position around fifth place at the halfway mark. With 600 meters remaining, Ethiopian runner Hagos Gebrhiwet surged to the front, drawing Ingebrigtsen into the fray. Gebrhiwet led at the bell, but Ingebrigtsen seized the opportunity and overtook him with half a lap to go, sprinting to secure the gold.
Ingebrigtsen’s victory adds the Olympic gold to his impressive collection of two world titles in the 5,000m, affirming his status as one of the premier middle-distance runners of his generation. This win marks a significant achievement in his career, showcasing his resilience and tactical prowess on the global stage.
